In between the trees of the Sonsbeek Park, with the city of Arnhem as a background, Canvas brought the fairy world of “midZOMERnachtDROOM” to more than 3.000 spectators.

An enthusiastic public, which in its majority didn’t belong to the usual selected group of art visitors.

Canvas Performing Art enchanted the public with a free interpretation full of fantasy of the well-known comedy of Shakespeare.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s comedy tale “Mid summer night dream”, Canvas brought the world of fairies to the Sonsbeek park in Arnhem, and created a performance about the endless moods and fantasies of love.

While the city is sleeping, our night dreams will meet under the silence of the Sonsbeek trees in deliriums of love.
Thirty figures in white play at the sun set leading the public to the world of Aphrodite.
Just like in a dream, reality is distorted and merged with the world of fantasy.
In this world of love hallucinations, a Queen and a King hold the secret of a love potion. Their love messenger is an awkward, wild creature: “Puck”. Puck is a lonely being of the woods, who likes to trick the lovers that fall into his nest. Using their naive harts, he plays the games of Aphrodite. In the background white odd figures observe the love couples; through their distant eyes we can sense the voice of conscience, the weight of a society who pretends not to be part of this dream.

Press reactions:

Once more Canvas received a great enthusiasm from the public and the press:

“Sometimes very intense and heartfelt and sometimes raiser sharp and fierce. This is almost a documentary like performance, sparkling in between a fabulous fairytale and an erotic thriller” De Gelderlander -29 June 2004
